Fries and Alibis

A delightfully fun and funny read from USA Today Bestselling author Trixie Silvertale!

What a fun read! Mitzi Moon is a barista and orphan who inherits a fortune and a bookstore from a grandmother she didn't know she had and takes off to Pin Cherry Harbor to claim her inheritance. She's fresh off the bus when she stumbles upon a dead body and becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Things get wilder when she discovers her bookshop is haunted by the grandmother who left it to her!

Edgier than a typical cozy mystery, this has a young, sassy sleuth, supernatural shenanigans, and good storytelling with lots of humor! It also had a very escapist quality to me, with a premise that I'll admit is one of my wildest fantasies--an unexpected and mysterious inheritance that includes a bookstore and a move to a quaint small town. Sign me up!

I enjoyed Mitzi's character arc. She has a sad backstory but is plucky and hopeful, blossoming as she settles into her new life in Pin Cherry Harbor. She's quick-witted in her internal dialogue and what she says to others. In particular, her exchanges with the hunky sheriff kept me laughing. Lots of snark and great one-liners!

The setting is a charming small town with an undercurrent of supernatural activity. It is populated with quirky characters, including Mitzi's ghostly grandmother, an attorney/alchemist, and a scene-stealing cat who seems to have some magic. Even with all the world-building that comes with the first in a series book, this was fast-paced. Unique and entertaining, this was just the lighthearted read I needed now. I have already downloaded book two in the series, which I plan to try on audiobook!

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review; all opinions are my own. Thank you to Trixie Silvertale for the #gifted book.

My steep was an iced Pecan Pie Chai from Club Magic Hour. This adaptogenic blend is one of my favorite chai teas and one of my favorite dessert teas! It's a limited edition and only available around the holidays, so I always act fast and stock up!
