This book stole my heart!
This book stole my heart! A delightfully swoony read, it's a sports romance packed with fun tropes like second-chance romance, enemies to lovers, fake dating/marriage, and forced proximity. Nora and Derek dated in college but broke up before he was drafted into the NFL. Years later, Nora, who has been paying her dues to become a sports agent, is assigned her first client, Derek. So, they make a list of rules for working together, but rules are made to be broken!
The characters are lovable. Nora is an adorably quirky and very determined FMC, and I loved her. She works in a male-dominated profession and has to contend with a lot. Dreamy Derek is a big ol cinnamon roll MMC who is coming to terms with a possibly career-ending injury and a diagnosis of dyslexia in adulthood. Both have things to work through on their own and interesting backstories. Together, they share witty banter and undeniable chemistry.
The secondary characters are great too. Nora and her colleague Nicole's dynamic is awesome, and Nora's mom is lovely. Then there's Derek's teammates—oh boy, they are a riot! Their hilarious dialogue, antics, and unwavering support for each other bring a warm, found-family element to the story.
I enjoyed Adams's engaging writing style, which is full of light-hearted humor. The pacing was just right, and this feel-good rom-com kept me entertained from start to finish.
Hathaway Lee narrates the audiobook from Nora's POV, and Will Damron narrates Derek's. They were perfect for their roles and delivered performances with a range of emotions, adding nuance and dimension to their scenes. Plus, they both have voices that are easy to listen to for hours if you end up binging this like I did!
